Our mission
A future for reptiles and amphibians, and the wild places they need.
RECF is a new Toronto-based charity managed by Reptilia. We were founded to put real resources behind conservation, research and education for some of the most overlooked animals in Ontario and around the world.
Mission statement
The Reptilia Education and Conservation Foundation protects reptiles and amphibians by supporting conservation in the wild and in care, funding research, and making nature education accessible to every child.
What we focus on
Five areas, one goal.
01 · In situ · Ontario
Conservation in the wild
Protecting reptiles and amphibians where they live, including their habitat, nesting sites and the routes they travel between them.
02 · Ex situ · Ontario
Conservation in care
Supporting care, rehabilitation and conservation breeding for at-risk species, as a safety net when wild populations are in trouble.
03 · Global
Programs around the world
Backing trusted conservation partners beyond Canada, where many reptile and amphibian species face even steeper declines.
04 · Science
Research
Funding the field studies that show which species need help most, and which conservation actions actually work.
05 · Education
Education for kids
Removing barriers so more children can learn about wildlife first-hand, whatever their school, neighbourhood or budget.
How we’ll work
Our principles.
Honest about results
We’re a young foundation. We’ll report what we fund and what it achieves, including what doesn’t go to plan.
Guided by science
Funding decisions will follow the best available evidence and expert advice, not trends.
Ontario first, global reach
Our roots are here at home, but reptiles and amphibians need help everywhere.
Kids at the centre
The next generation of conservationists starts with a child’s first encounter with wildlife.
